This Is Now: Roxane Gay

  • Kepler's Books 1010 El Camino Real Menlo Park, CA, 94025 United States (map)

In her newsletter The Audacity, Roxane Gay notes that she once wrote “an obscure little blog few people read,” where she shared her thoughts with “myself and three or four other people.” How times have changed.

Today Gay is a phenomenon. Her books are bestsellers. The New York Times publishes her thoughts in a regular column and in the advice series “Work Friend.” She’s lectured to packed classes at Yale.

Her success derives from her unique view of the world. She sees it clearly, in all its messy, anxious drama—yet she manages to laugh. And it comes, too, from her frankness; she finds no benefit in couching her takes on our US culture, or on human beings in general. Appropriately, her new book is titled Opinions: A Decade of Arguments, Criticism, and Minding Other People’s Business. She’s collected some of her best works into this new anthology, tackling politics, feminism, the culture wars, civil rights, and more.

Roxane Gay last appeared at Kepler’s in 2015 in front of a sold-out crowd. Grab your tickets early! Just as we did before, we expect to run out of seats before we run out of demand.

Masks are required for everyone over the age of 2 years old and must be worn at all times in the venue, and throughout the duration of the event.
