The past few years have seen a steady escalation of the housing crisis in our
community characterized by evictions and steep rent increases for those
unfortunate enough to not own their home.

Youth have identified that the mainstream narrative about displacement only focuses on adults, there is little to no conversation about the impacts on youth.

Young people from our community aim to gather a panel of 4-5 youth from different areas of the Bay Area to talk about their experience with displacement and gentrification. They will share their stories about the personal toll that displacement has taken on their emotional and physical well being. The goal is to highlight the similarities of all of the communities experiencing displacement in this housing crisis, and make youth experience center stage.

We will encourage youth find comfort in the fact that their experience is shared, and that this event will hopefully be the catalyst for organizing around housing issues in the future. We also aim to provide helpful resources that are available in the community to those facing eviction or displacement.
