Meet Tavi Gevinson, editor-in-chief of and founder of Rookie, an online magazine for teenage girls.
Tavi's career in media began when she created the blog Style Rookie in 2008 at age eleven. She launched Rookie at age fifteen which has paved the way for a new era of teen media as an online magazine made by and for teenagers (and their cohorts of any age). It has inspired millions of readers by honestly addressing the adolescent experience and empowering young people to tell their own stories.
Tavi has since spoken at many places including TEDxTeen, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Sydney Opera House, and The New Yorker Festival. She’s written for Elle, The Chicago Tribune, and NPR, posed for Annie Liebovitz and the iconic Pirelli calendar, voiced a character on the Simpsons, and owns a pair of gloves once owned by Audrey Hepburn and Winona Ryder
Tavi is also an actress, having starred in Kenneth Lonergan's Tony-nominated This Is Our Youth, Ivo van Hove's revival of The Crucible as Mary Warren, and most recently Stephen Karam's revival of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard on Broadway and the Sundance darling Human People.
She’ll be chatting about her new book Rookie on Love an anthology about the heart’s most powerful emotion. Featuring exclusive, never-before-seen essays, poems, comics, and interviews from beloved voices like John Green, Rainbow Rowell, Hilton Als, Alessia Cara, Durga Chew-Bose, Etgar Keret, Margo Jefferson, Janet Mock, Gabourey Sidibe, Emma Straub, Jenny Zhang and many more, this collection is the perfect reflection on love in its many forms.
