Children and adults who suffer from diet-related diseases score lower on tests, miss more days of school, experience fewer career advancement opportunities, and raise children who are likely to repeat the same cycle. Worse yet, one in three American children is on track to join the already 29 million adults with diabetes.
We can do better.
When Deepa Thomas gave up on yet another insulin plan and medical treatment aimed at relieving her husbands struggle with diabetes, she turned to what she knew best. Versing herself in ground-breaking nutritional research and the wisdom of Ayurveda, Deepa reworked her favorite Indian cuisine, innovating timeless recipes into new dishes that were flavorful, organic, and, best of all, healthy.
Deepa's work to address diabetes in her own home led her to Jenny Shilling Stein, chair of the board at FoodCorps. FoodCorps is a national non-profit dedicated to serving communities in need across the country, including the Bay Area. In everything they do to educate, revitalize, and encourage these communities, FoodCorps offers nourishment and compassion to people who need it most.
Join us, as Deepa Thomas and Jenny Shilling Stein discuss the basics of nutrition, the importance of a healthy, balanced lifestyle, and what we can all do to nourish ourselves and our communities.
Deepa will donate all royalties from her stunning new cookbook, Deepa's Secrets, to FoodCorps.
