A Room with a View by E. M. Forster
If you haven’t read Forster’s hilarious, ultra-intelligent masterpiece, you must join us.
Set in Italy, the novel is the perfect kick-off to summer. Its delightfulness makes it a page-turning joy, all while probing the very nature of truth. As a Jewish, gay man raised by spinster aunts, Forster knew his way around an elaborate sham. You can just feel his glee in setting up fascinating scenarios—with his masterfully created characters—only to lovingly tear them apart. The book offers a masterclass in dialogue, character development, setting and structure, all covered in Forster’s Aspects of the Novel, (which we will touch on here and there in a photocopied packet). You will love it!
Come and leave with a better appreciation of how to READ.
